Did you know that your stress level can be affected by the types of food that you eat?

Some people don’t pay any attention to what they are eating and how it affects their stress levels. When done correctly, eating healthy food can help to control your stress levels. Let’s look at some of the ways that food can be used as a natural remedy to help with your stress levels:

•	It’s important to have a well balanced and healthy diet in order to be stress-free. Eating what you want, including junk food will do nothing for you but help you gain weight. You should try to stick to a time frame where you can eat, especially the three basic meals.

•	Eat snacks in between. Some good choices are celery and carrots. It’s not a good idea to skip a meal, as it can add on to your stress level. The food that you eat should contain plenty of vitamins and nutrients. Breakfast should be one of your heavier meals of the day.

•	Eat plenty of fruits to help control your stress level. Fruit contains plenty of Vitamin C and antioxidants. Antioxidants fight off radicals. Radicals can contribute to your stress level. Try eating things like apples or oranges to combat your stress level.

•	If you like nuts or not allergic to them, almonds can help to relieve stress. Almonds have plenty of Vitamin E and help to keep stress from getting to you. You can munch on a few of them as a stress reliever.

•	Drinking milk can help people relieve stress. Milk has plenty of antioxidants that help to combat stress. Drinking a cup everyday is a good way of effectively relieving your stress levels. You can also have milk when you’re eating cereal.

•	Try eating asparagus to get rid of stress. Asparagus has plenty of antioxidants that can help with that. Another stress reliever is blueberries. These also have plenty of antioxidants. Keep some of these handy so when you feel the stress coming on, you can readily eat them.

If your stress level is high, it’s important that you change your diet as soon as possible. The sooner you can do that, the sooner you can effectively deal with getting your stress level down and get rid of stress altogether.

Before you can do anything about stress in your life, you have to realize what it is that is causing the stress to occur. Once you figure that out, you can start to deal with the triggers. Pay attention to what happens when the stress occurs so that you can learn to recognise the warning signs. You may be affected by different stressors that affect you physically, emotionally and mentally.

There are many ways that people can learn to combat stress and learn to live a stress-free life. Here are some tips that people can use to help them reach stress-free status. These stress-reducing tips are simple and ones that you can do everyday:

Managing Stress

•	If there are events or situations that constantly trigger your stress, you should try your best to avoid them, if possible. If you can’t do that, decrease the amount of time that you involve yourself in that situation in order to decrease the stress.

•	Focus your energy on the positive things in your life. Or try to ignore it altogether if it’s something insignificant. The more focus you put on it, the more stressed you’ll become.

•	When you feel stress coming on, learn to control your emotions to help you deal with it. Nobody around you will know what’s going on inside your head so try to keep calm. Besides, it’s highly unlikely that they could or are willing to help you anyway.

•	Learn to control your physical reactions when you’re dealing with stress. When some people are under pressure, they look to physically striking out at others or at objects in order to release their stress. You may have to take medicine to keep your anger and actions under control and help to reduce your stress levels.

Stop Worrying

When people are dealing with things that they are not sure of, they tend to worry. They start second guessing themselves and questioning whether or not what they did or said was the right decision.

Until they get clarity and understanding, they will feel stressed and tense. They start to wonder what could happen if they made the wrong decision. Let’s look at some things that you can do to combat this and have peace within yourself:

•	You can’t overly concern yourself with what will happen in the future. In doing so, you overlook what’s going on now, which is important. Think about what’s going on now and not worry too much about the future.

•	Don’t concern yourself about what other people do. That is their decision and their prerogative. You can’t change the way they act or what they do. They are the ones to have to live with the decision they make. You can’t control others to fit into your lifestyle. Accept their decision and hope for the best for them.

•	Don’t get into a cycle of doubt and unbelief. If you’re uncertain about something, then don’t engage yourself in it. Make the most of what is going on with you and stay in a positive frame of mind.

Don’t make mountains out of molehills. Thinking that things will get worse will only add to the stress that you’re already dealing with. Don’t deal with things that you’re not sure about and work on keeping your mind at peace.

Office work can be really stressful especially if you have one of those jobs that require you to submit on deadlines or have an infuriatingly tireless boss who does not seem to know the meaning of the word “rest.” To complain is to lose your job in an instant so the only option is to manage your stress as much as you can.

Below are some of the ways on how to manage your stress while at the office. The beauty of this is, you can do this even while sitting at your desk and doing your deskwork. Read on and let these techniques help you.

1. Head turning exercises

One of the best ways to relieve your stress is to relax the source: the muscles. You can do this by stretching your muscles and turning your head and arm from side to side. You can do this while you are standing or even by sitting down.

2. Are you sitting comfortably?

One of the best ways to manage stress is to prevent it from coming or at least lessen it. You can do this by making sure that your work area is comfortable to work on. Start with your chair. Can you relax when you are sitting on it or do your muscles get stiff? Why is it not comfortable? Once you determine what makes the chair uncomfortable to use, it will be easier for you to solve the problem. Often, pillows and some cushions will answer your need. Other times, especially when the chair is already broken, you will need to completely replace the chair. Remember that working with a bad posture heightens the stress that we feel in the muscle areas.

3. Manage your time and manage stress too.

Managing your time properly and not cramming can spell a whole lot of difference in your stress levels. Start doing your work ahead of time. Don’t wait for the last seconds to do that report. Start the research. This will make you more prepare and more able to deal with potential stress incidents such as your boss asking for that report way ahead of schedule. At least, if you have started on it on time, you will be able to at least give him some notes.
Also, managing your time well will mean that you won’t have to go against the clock. You can work at a leisurely pace knowing that you have enough time to finish the job. Besides little stresses like this can build up and lead to a heightened stress level.

4. Take regular breaks

Taking time out from your work will help you a lot when in decreasing that stress level. As much as you can, take short minute break and just close your eyes. Resting the eyes and closing out your senses for a second helps a lot in centering your spirit and in bringing back the energy.

5. Humour helps to manage stress

The best way to lose the stress is to loosen up. Don’t be too serious with that job. Laugh with friends at the office and join in on the fun. If you can’t do that, laugh all by yourself by reading some funny comics or books. The important thing is smile! Smiling relaxes the muscles. In fact, it uses far less muscles than frowning.

Stress can affect every aspect of life in general. That is why it is essential that people learn a bit of stress management since the experience can sometimes be inevitable. A little bit of stress now and then can sometimes be helpful in that it keeps a person be conditioned to react when certain unexpected circumstances happen. But this is the type of stress that one can easily cope up with. On the other hand, experiencing too much stress can have adverse effects on the body.

There are many ways that people do to try and cope with stress. One of the most common but certainly not the quickest means is by changing a person’s mindset. It has been known that how a person thinks greatly affects his behavior and actions. If a person always thinks negatively, behavior seems likely to follow the same way. And when a person’ s way of thinking and behavior is based on negativity, it is more likely that stress becomes an ever present companion in every aspect of life. In order to stop stress from becoming a damaging factor in one’s life, then one has to get rid of all the negativity in terms of behavior and thinking.

One way of trying to get rid of the negativity in one’s mindset is by trying to identify There is a form of stress therapy called cognitive restructuring which deals with identifying and changing a person’s faulty thinking and unrealistic beliefs. Cognitive distortions is another term used to refer to these faulty thinking and beliefs. By correcting these distortions, only then can one be able to change one’s way of thinking.

People make use of different cognitive distortions which can be associated with stress. These are faulty thinking and beliefs that lead people to behave or act in a negative way. And there are several cognitive distortions that are common problems in many people. One of them is overgeneralization.

Overgeneralization is a common cognitive distortion among many people. Some may not be aware of it, but a lot of people are always guilty of overgeneralizing. It can be considered as a normal reaction by some. But too much of it can lead one to stress.

It is normal for people to base judgments on past experiences. When a person has experienced a negative event, it then becomes a factor that one naturally tries to relate other succeeding negative events of the same kind. This is why most people tend to develop stereotypes. But then overgeneralizing tends to make people believe that when experiencing a certain situation, all the other similar situations in the future would result in the exact same way.

People overgeneralize by thinking that there would be no difference in terms of results to similar situations that happen in the past to ones that happen in the present or in the future. When one has an experience with a rude salesperson, an overgeneralizer would judge that all salespersons are also rude.

Another common distortion in most people that is corrected in stress management is the trait of always jumping into conclusions. There are many people who, when faced with a certain situation tend to jump into making conclusions of why certain events happen. This is usually made before any evidence has been taken to back up the conclusion. For every negative situation, people with this cognitive distortion often try to go straight into concluding in the negative.

This can become so bad that people easily accepts the conclusion, even to the point of ignoring signs and evidences that prove the contrary.

Our outlook and mental attitude on life as a whole plays a huge part in how happy we are in life and how successful we become. Someone who thinks positively about everything will be more at ease, more calmer and smile more than than somebody who’s always looking on the bad side, who lets stress bother them and who constantly wear a frown.

Not only does how you think and feel affect you, it also affects those close to you, in short our mood affects our day. Developing and maintaining a positive outlook is all important if you want to lead a positive and satisfying life.

The person who goes through life optimistically with a positive mental attitude is more capable of coping with life and the problems which it occasionally bedevils us with, they’re able to bounce back and recover from problems or set-backs in life.

The optimistic person will understand problem for what it is, nothing but a temporary set-back which they can overcome and move on, when looking at life in this optimistic way the person is able to take full control over their thoughts and feelings and turn a negative situation into a more positive one by simply altering the way they think.

Because thoughts can either be positive or negative and you can only have one thought in mind at any one time then choosing positive ones will keep your thoughts, emotions and actions optimistic which leads to a happier person who is able to achieve their goals much easier.

There are numerous ways in which for developing a more positive mind-set and start to modify how you think and feel about many situations that you come across in your day-to-day life. Changing your mental attitude and not sliding back into negative thinking will take time but in time your new way of looking at things will become second nature. The five main key points to remember when modifying your outlook are

1.Alter your way of thinking into positive thinking and apply thinking positively on a daily basis. You need to focus your mind on completing one task at a time and think only of a positive outcome and how good you’ll feel when you’ve accomplished the task. Never succumb to doubt and let yourself believe that you’ve taken too much on and just keep going.

2.Don’t let your conversations turn negative, when in a conversation it is easy to let others discourage you, especially if they have a poor outlook on life. Don’t be influenced to lapse into your old ways, turn negative talk into positive and seek the good in everything and any situation.

3. Look for the positive in those around you and point it out, this way you’ll be able to promote a positive mental attitude all around you.

4.Whatever you’re doing in your daily life always look for the good in it, although it may be a tedious chore which you normally detest doing and one which leaves you feeling negatively, try to find something about it that turns it into a more positive situation.

5.Never allow yourself become distracted or beguiled into going back to negativity, it takes time to change the way you feel and think and if you’ve been dispirited with yourself and the world for a while then your new outlook will take some time to take effect and remain around.

You will discover over time that many areas of your life can be improved simply by changing your outlook from a negative one to a more positive. You’ll find that your self-esteem improves, you become more popular, you feel happier and are more confident than ever before, you are able to undertake the tasks you once despised without them causing you stress and anxiety and your relationships will improve.

These are just some of the areas where you’ll be able to self-improve and gain a more positivistic mindset and therefore lead a more positive life.

A company or business undergoing workplace change is going through a stressful event. Good stress management practice should be in place in order to help affected employees go though a less stressful and agonizing transition. Sad and unfortunate it may be, people still would need to be prepared to face such stressful events with their wits still intact.

For managers, going through an organizational change can be quite a stressful task in itself. But it is up to those high up in the department to bring the bad news of change to the front lines. This requires effective communication. And it pays to let the employees know and be kept updated. Although sometimes management thinks that news of an impending organizational change that would affect the whole company would remain only within their earshot, news of such usually ends up going down the line and reach employees.

When news of such changes in the organization are received by employees of the company through informal channels, the response to them is usually negative. By the time the management decides to break the news, the stress and unanswered concerns may have already spread. The problem with getting news of an organizational change through informal sources is that employees may not have the means to have all their concerns answered and are therefore left to make up their own conclusions.

In order to avoid spreading such unwanted stress to the whole organization about to undergo organizational change, it is up to the management to provide the news themselves before the employees themselves get hold of it through other sources. This will help avoid building up stress and conflicts among the organization already about to undergo a stressful experience. Communicating such news takes prompt action.

One way to spread the news of an organizational change is to try and involve the employees. Management alone may not be able to do the job effectively. It may require the help of some people from the front lines. Managers should try to involve supervisors and team leaders in order to help spread the news of the change and to provide the reasons why the change may be the best for the company. Doing so would help the organization as a whole get the whole picture and avoid employees from making up their own conclusions over the matter, creating a confused and agitated situation.

But good stress management does not stop at just spreading the news of organizational change about to happen. It is also important to know how the employees may react to this. There might be a need to interview the employees in order for management to know what the employees truly feel about the situation.

Effective change can only be achieved if the organization goes through a smooth transition. And a smooth change involves ensuring that the affected employees go through a less stressful experience by addressing issues that include their fears, needs and concerns. True, there might be quite a number who might oppose the idea.

And that is where management may have the challenge of convincing affected employees and trying to address their concerns sincerely to avoid the buildup of a stressful situation that can easily get out of hand.

Change has always been a factor in stress management. Being able to handle and deal with the stress that comes with change. Change, in whatever form, can be met in two ways – either it is welcomed or it is not.

People are always fearful of change that happens in their lives. That is maybe why some people become stressed by it. Maybe it is the unexpected that can stress out people whenever change happens in their lives. And there are different ways and phases that people react to change that happen in their lives.

The most common reaction to change is shock and surprise. When confronted by unexpected situations such as accidents or other unplanned events, surprise seems to be the immediate reaction for many people. Such situations make people realize that certain plans and patterns one has made in life can reach some unexpected changes. The realization that nothing is permanent can be a source of stress for some people as change may come as a surprise.

Some people react to change with denial and refusal to accept change. Some people even try to bring out certain values in order to support that any change is not necessary. This may be a secondary reaction to change after the surprise and shock phase.

At times, people move on from surprise and sometimes denial to a rational understanding of change. People may see that change may actually be needed in certain situations and that there are reasons why changes happen. Through this, people begin to learn how to find ways on how to deal with the situation. But at this point people may still not be willing to have change affect their behavior but rather find some means to remedy the situation instead.

Change can sometimes lead people to react in two different ways. At certain points, change may reach a certain level where it becomes a crisis. At this point, people may either accept it or totally avoid it. When people learn to accept the change, no matter how unpleasant, they are not affected by the stress that comes with it as much as the ones that may wish to avoid or ignore change. Avoiding evident changes, especially the unpleasant ones, can sometimes lead to additional stress to people.

Trying to fight one’s own way in dealing with change other than accepting it can sometimes be a lost cause. Conflicts, both internal and external may arise and give considerable stress to people. It is only after learning how to accept the changes that will help release some of the burden that denial and refusal to accept change brings along.

Stress management works by being able to understand and learn about how people deal with changes. Knowing the different reactions and the phases that people go through with change can help people get a better grasp of dealing with the results of change with less stress.

Optimism is one of the most effective means of stress management. Optimism allows a person to see the positive side of things. It is an attitude characterized by the belief that everything can be worked out with a positive end result. In the case of stress, an optimistic mind can be able to cope up well with whatever stress situations one experiences in life.

People can have either one of two attitudes in life. One can either be an optimist or a pessimist. Optimists explain positive events as having happened because of them. Pessimists think of it in the opposite way. They have in mind that the negative things that happen in life are their own doing. Optimists see the positive events in their lives as evidence that more positive things will be happening in the future. For pessimists, a negative event will surely lead on to more negative events in the future.

For optimists, negative things that happen are not to be entirely blamed on them where as pessimists usually take the blame on themselves. Optimists think that the negative things happening in their lives are just temporary setbacks while pessimists see the positive things as just temporary occasions that come once in a blue moon. On a more common analogy, optimists see a partially filled glass of water as half full while pessimists usually see it as half empty. The difference between optimists and pessimists can be identified by how they see the positive and the negative things.

In stress management, optimism always wins out. What’s more interesting is that optimism is a trait that can be learned through practice. As a positive thought can do a lot to a stressful mind, conditioning the mind to think only of positive thoughts can sometimes enable it to change perspective subconsciously. It would be a much better deal than to think of the negative all of the tie.

Negative thoughts can bring out the stress easily. And too much stress will always bring the worst in people. The best way to combat the stress and the negative thoughts that come with it is by maintaining a more optimistic attitude. Although for some people it can be a bit difficult to do, optimism actually gets better with practice.

Optimism and a positive attitude offer people a number of certain benefits. Not only will it help one deal better with stress but also with a person’s overall well being. One good reason is that optimists and positive thinkers have been known to live longer than those who see only the negative in life. A good reason for this is that an optimistic mind, always thinking of positive things, deal with less problems and worries.

It is persistent worry and anxiety that seem to bring about such harmful physical conditions like high blood pressure, hypertension, and insomnia. By worrying less, optimists usually have to deal with fewer negative baggages to burden them and are less affected by worry-induced physical conditions. And because of this, optimists live longer and healthier lives.

It is not only that, there is more that positive thinking can bring out in people. Optimism also seems to make people become more persistent. Even in the face of stress and seemingly insurmountable problems, an optimistic mind seems to help people strive longer and survive whereas pessimists easily give up and see the hopelessness in the situation. In stress management, it is the optimists that don’t easily give up.

It fuels persistence that allows them to succeed in overcoming the stress instead of succumbing to it. And simply through this, optimists can show that they are able to do and achieve more than what pessimists can.
